As ninth graders, students were asked to download Naviance on their computers to help them plan their extracurricular activities, build their resumes, and explore potential interests for the future. Throughout high school, especially during sophomore and junior years, the app supports students as they consider college options and career paths, a process that can be very stressful. Below are some key features of Naviance that support students:
Self Discovery: Under the Self Discovery tab, students can access career interest profilers, skill assessments, and personality quizzes. Many high school students may not know what they want to major in college, which specifically makes this tab very helpful. The career interest profiler is a fifteen-minute assessment in which students answer sixty questions about their interests. After submitting, Naviance then provides career options that align with their traits and aspirations. Similarly, there are also intelligence, learning & productivity, personality, skills, and strength explorer assessments that allow students to learn more about their capabilities outside of academics.
Colleges: After using the career cluster finder and career interest profiler to explore possible careers, the Colleges tab helps students find the right college. Using the feature, SuperMatch College Search, high school students can enter criteria based on what they must have and what would be preferable in a college. By selecting factors such as distance, location, or reputation, Naviance then selects a list of possible colleges that may help the student pick the right fit for them. With around four thousand universities in the U.S., it can be difficult for students to determine which college fits their goals. Naviance also provides organizational features that allow students to compare and research different colleges.
Planner: Naviance has a Planner tab, which allows students to track their academic progress, ensuring that they meet their graduation requirements and remain on track for success. Students can set up goals, which can range from making the honor roll to applying to law school. When completing the Goals tab, students should enter multiple goals that range from short-term to long-term. Lastly, the To-Do List includes tasks that students need to complete. These tasks may be assigned by the school or created by the students themselves. Using a to-do list makes students more organized in planning, as they can align their tasks with their goals to ensure they are staying on track.
Even if college is not the pathway a student chooses, Naviance has other exploration features, such as military branches, like the Navy or Space Force, which contain many pieces of information, guiding students towards their chosen goal.
Naviance has many features that high school students can benefit from throughout all four years of high school, as it supports students from ninth grade through senior year, helping them identify their interests and research colleges.
