The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Korean Culture Club sponsored a fun Jeopardy-style event about Korean culture on November 19.
The Korean Culture Club is a way for students to learn more about Korean culture. Students learn a new Korean word at each meeting.
The club started up their yearly tradition of Penpals, where students from the club can correspond in Korean with students from a high school in South Korea. This is a great way for students to get better at writing and reading Korean..
At the previous meeting, students made paper tiles as a craft and played the Korean game ddakji, the objective being to flip over the paper tile on the floor by throwing their paper tile at it. Students met new people through this entertaining game.
At the recent event, students played jeopardy about Korean culture. Students started by making groups and got to meet new people in the process.
The categories of jeopardy consisted of Korean food, K-pop, K-dramas, Korean culture, and the Korean language.
Students took turns picking a category and answering the question. Students were able to learn more about Korean culture through this jeopardy.
The winning team got turtle chips as a reward for participating in the activity. Shortly after, the meeting ended with students listening to different K-pop groups.
Siya Bobade, vice president of the `Korean Culture Club, discussed the event and the planning to make it a success.
“We had a lot of fun planning the event as we looked into different aspects of Korean culture. It was fun trying to find ways to make a jeopardy that those with even the basic knowledge of Korean culture would find easy to answer.”
Anika Patel, a sophomore who was part of the winning team in jeopardy, shared her thoughts on the event.
“I’ve never had so much fun playing Jeopardy in my life. My favorite category was K-pop because I actually knew a lot more than I thought I would. Also, the officers bring so many yummy snacks for everyone to try, and the winning team got Turtle Chips, which are the best chips ever, by the way.”
Korean Culture Club will be holding a Tteokbokki making event after school on Friday, 12/5, in room 216. Any student who wants to join can fill out the Google form that is linked on their Google Classroom and has to pay a $4 fee at the event. As there are limited spots, make sure to sign up early!
