The Bridgwater Raritan High School girls’ soccer team produced a hot streak that sent it to a state sectional final.
The team defeated Woodbridge High School, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, and Ridge High School to advance to the championship game of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 tournament.
Bridgewater-Raritan opened with a 6-0 victory over Woodbridge High School and followed with a 2-1 triumph over Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
Senior Reese Reimann has scored three goals in the last two games, with assists from senior teammate Hayden Tormasi.
Reimann has 19 goals on the season, leading the team in goals. Freshman Madison Brocklehurst has also scored 14 points this season, with five goals and four assists, making a huge impact on the team already. Junior Summer Winchock has 10 goals on the season, leaving another huge effect. Sophomore goalie Brooke Engstrom has blocked 97 goals throughout the 19 games played this season, contributing to the team’s successful season.
Coach Sean Casey’s team, after defeating Ridge, moved on to the state sectional title game against its old rival, Westfield High School, on Saturday, November 15.
Westfield defeated Bridgewater-Raritan in the state sectional final, 1-0, to leave the team with a final record of 15-9.
Westfield also defeated Bridgewater-Raritan in last year’s state sectional title game.
Senior Mariah Deegan spoke about the team environment throughout the playoffs so far, giving insight into the team’s mindset and feelings throughout their playoff run.
“Our team environment has been amazing throughout the playoffs. Everyone’s been locked in, supportive, and pushing each other every day.”
