The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Neurodiversity Ambassadors Club held its first Special Ed Event of the Year on October 29.
Neurodiversity Ambassadors is a club that is focused on advocating for the acceptance and celebration of neurodiversity.
Recently, the club had its first meeting and introduced the idea of Penpals with neurodiverse individuals in the school. On the day of the Special Ed Event, students from the club gave their Penpal their letter.
On the day of the event, student attendees had the opportunity to meet and introduce themselves to the special education students in the school. All the students were excited to meet new people.
The event began with a round of “Get-To-Know-You” bingo. Students went around asking others their names and various questions to fill out a bingo on their sheet.
Food was also offered at the meeting. Students got a pack of Sun Chips and homemade s’mores cookies.
A lot of time and preparation went into their event planning and logistics to ensure that it ran smoothly.
Laya Sankaran, a sophomore and the Outreach Manager of the Neurodiversity Ambassadors club, spoke about event.
“Our first event was extremely successful, and everyone seemed to enjoy it very much! Personally, I liked getting to know more great people, especially from the special-ed classes, as we do not get a lot of opportunities to see them during the regular school day,” Laya said.
The event concluded with all individuals standing together for a picture to commemorate the club’s first event!
Most people wanted to spend more time with people at the event, considering the allocated forty minutes passed by very quickly, and everyone had a great time meeting new people.
Sara Pimpalkhare, a freshman in the club, shares her thoughts about the Special Ed Event.
“It was really fun to meet some new faces that I don’t usually meet,” she said. “I thought that the event was a great opportunity to meet new people and learn more about them!”
The club has many ideas and events planned for the future. In the near future, the Neurodiversity Ambassadors plan to attend the club fair to spread awareness of the club. They also plan on hosting multiple Special Ed events in the future.
