Career Concentrations provide students with the opportunity to enroll in classes that become progressively advanced, aligned with their college or post-secondary career interests. All offered career concentrations will provide students with educational experiences that prepare them for careers in the 21st century.
The Career Concentration program aims to certify students who have achieved in-depth learning in a selected field that combines academic study with career exploration.
Upon completion of the designated course, students will receive a Graduation Stole. This can be worn over your graduation gown, signifying your accomplishment. A Career Concentration will be reported on the high school transcript and will inform colleges and employers that students did the following:
- Completed a comprehensive, in-depth, and coherent course of study in a specialized area
- Conducted a culminating capstone project in a field of interest
- Developed key professional skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, perseverance, creativity, innovation, analysis, reasoning, and questioning
- Gained firsthand knowledge about a desired job or industry from experienced professionals
While these courses span diverse disciplines, they all share a common attribute: each requires students to engage in real-world situations while applying problem-solving skills. Every course in each concentration addresses problems professionals face daily, and students will develop technical skills that transfer across different careers and contexts.
To complete a Career Concentration, students must take and complete a minimum of 17.5 credits from their concentration’s corresponding courses, and also complete a Capstone course.
Previously, BRHS only offered 5 Career Concentration Endorsements: Business, Computer Science, Engineering & Robotics, Visual Arts, and Music. This upcoming school year, however, another 2 courses will be offered. These new courses will be 3D Design and Production and Media & Content Creation.
Students can also earn a Career Concentration Endorsement with Distinction. This can be done by participating in either a Service Learning experience with a credit value of 1-2.5, or participating in at least 2 career experiences per year (e.g. Guest Speakers or Club Activities), totalling 8, before graduation.
