The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys’ swim team looks to end the 2025-26 season with a perfect 8-0 record and secure a state sectional title in the upcoming weeks.
When the season officially started on December 5, the team knew it had to focus its efforts to win a state sectional this season because of a close loss to Westfield High School (92-78) last year on February 13, 2025.
The team is looking forward to competing at sectionals after their recent wins against Princeton (113-57) and Hillsborough (105-65). This sectional dream is even more plausible considering the condition of all the veteran seniors currently on the team and the new lineup of freshmen that are competing alongside them.
The senior swimmers, which include Antony Buniowski, Nish Brahmbhatt, Matthew Enriquez, Gajendra Joshi, Gabriel Quevedo, Jaden Lee and Samuel Meyer, are well-prepared for a smooth transition into state sectionals this year after their near victory last season and complete dominance this season. The veterans are in good shape heading into the final weeks and they show it by dominating their events in the pool, especially the relay events.
In the meet against Hillsborough on January 13, the 200-Meter Medley Relay team consisting of sophomore Owen Forgot and seniors Samuel Meyer, Matthew Enriquez and Antony Buniowski banged home a 3rd place finish with a time of 1:41.08. Jaden Lee also competed in the same event but in the winning relay team, alongside Marvellous Suciayahdi, Derek Cordero and Aaron Roy, with a final relay time of 1:34.61.
Additionally, the freshmen on the team have been performing outstandingly in their individual events, riding off the momentum from the seniors. The roster of freshmen include Arsh Singh, Lucas Lipowliczan, Gabriel Rodriguez, Owen Xu and Ian Zhou.
Some performances from the freshmen swimmers include: Arsh Singh’s 5:22.03 in the 500 Free, Owen Xu’s individual performance in the 200 Freestyle Relay team and Ian Zhou in the 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:14.62.
Arsh Singh, a freshman on the team, shares his thoughts on the teams’ overall performance.
“It’s actually insane! We’re number 1 in the state and we have a huge chance of winning the state tournament this year. We expect to win sectionals this year and keep winning because we have a reputation to uphold,” he said.
He also explains the tradition behind the Boy’s Team’s bleached hair.
“The tradition has been around for a long long time. Every year, the entire team bleaches their hair and it’s just a tradition that started when the Swim Team first appeared in our high school.”
The team looks to continue its success through the remainder of the 25-26 season.
