The Bridgewater-Raritan High School indoor winter track and field team attended its first official meet of the season on December 10, in Staten Island, NY, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Bridgewater-Raritan High School had athletes competing in the following events: 55M, 55M Hurdles, 300M, 600M, 1000M, 1600M, 4x200M Relay, shot put and pole vault.
Some of the most notable performances from the team included Justin Reid and Maximilian Pasewaldt—both of whom competed in the Boys 4x200M alongside Jeremiah Wiley and Kenneth Graham—who placed 5th and 6th, respectively, in the 55M Dash.
Another notable performance was by Lana Geulich in the 600M, with a time of 1:46.68, placing 9th overall. Dahlia Adams and Sofia Daniels also placed in the 1600M for the girls’ team; Dahlia in 3rd place with a 5:18 mile and Sofia in 5th with a 5:33.
In the boys’ mile, Alex Kurasinski ranked in the top 10 with a mile time of 4:44. Clayton Williams placed 7th in the Boys’ 55M Hurdles with a time of 8.50. Meanwhile, Andrew Ciccotelli placed second in the Pole Vault, only behind Elizabeth High School’s Jaydan Cadet.
However, out of all these outstanding performances, one stood apart from the rest: The Boys’ 4x200M relay.
The ‘A’ team squad—consisting of Justin Reid, Maximilian Pasewaldt, Jeremiah Wiley and Kenneth Graham—put on a stellar performance this December night. With blazing speed, the boys clocked in with a time of 1:31.74, second only to Elizabeth High School, breaking Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s previous record by over five seconds.
Coach David Evans reflected on the performance of the team overall at their first meet.
“We had some really good performances. Some people ran their best times ever. We set one school record in the 4×2 and we kind of expected to do that. So it was just kind of an icebreaker meet getting back into the swing of things,” he said.
He also shared an insight into what future training for the team will look like.
“Over the course of the season, the training will kick in more and they will get faster. There are always things to work on, as far as race tactics go. It’s just kind of a thing you learn by doing,” he said.
He also spoke about the more technical events in Track and Field, like the relays.
“Some of the technical events, like the relays, with these changes, there is some stuff we can clean up. Get a little better at handoffs, work on starts, and those kinds of things,” Coach Evans mentioned.
Coach Evans hopes the team can continue with these strong performances at the next few meets. The Bridgewater-Raritan High School winter track season has started off strong and the team hopes to carry their momentum through to Sectionals.
