The Bridgewater-Raritan High School American Cancer Society (ACS) club convened its opening meeting on Wednesday, November 12. The meeting focused on sharing the club’s objectives and goals for the year, accompanied by critical announcements.
ACS is a nationally acclaimed non-profit organization dedicated to ending cancer through patient support, advocacy for individuals with cancer, participating in volunteer activities, fundraising, research, and more. The club at Bridgewater-Raritan High School serves as a chapter of the organization.

To commence the meeting, Associate Director of ACS, Kyra Fitch, introduced the organization’s mission, especially in regard to the local New Jersey community. She also introduced fundraising events, including the Relay for Life, which was later elaborated throughout the meeting.
The officers then discussed the activities allocated for club members. This included volunteering at local cancer clinics, school fundraisers, crafting letters to cancer patients, and research opportunities provided by ACS. Furthermore, information regarding Relay for Life, the largest fundraising opportunity for cancer patients held in the spring, was shared as an opportunity for involvement and activism.
Sophomore and Bridgewater-Raritan High School ACS officer Sricharan Gurugubelli expressed his goals for the club throughout the year.
“We plan on helping to fundraise for the Relay for Life, which is being held on May 29 at Duke Island Park. The Relay for Life is an event where cancer survivors, caregivers, and family members walk laps in order to help spread awareness about cancer. There are multiple chances for sports teams, clubs, and businesses to sponsor the event and receive advertising. We plan on providing volunteers and funds.”
Officer applications were also announced, with active participation in the club increasing chances of becoming an officer. The first opportunity to earn points is to create a presentation about fundraising ideas in groups of two to three, which will be shared at the next meeting.
To conclude, members enjoyed snacks and refreshments provided by the club. Interested students can attend the next meeting, which will be held in Room 813 after school on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. They can also join the Google Classroom with the code: qwy3ofu.
