The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Symphonic Choir, Select Treble Choir and Mixed Choir performed in the auditorium on November 16.
This performance, out of the many choirs, included two of BRHS’s choirs for that performance day.
The Somerset Hills Harmony, a highly regarded acapella group that rehearses in Pluckemin, held an event on November 16 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School to celebrate the group’s 75th anniversary.
The event was in the form of a concert that showcased various groups that performed in the high school auditorium.
Featured performers included the Somerset Hills Harmony, the Parkside Harmony of Hershey, the OC Times (2009 Barbershop Harmony Society Champions), the Bridgewater-Raritan Symphonic Choir, Select Treble Choir, Mixed Choir and the Hackensack Middle School Choir.
The choirs at this school prepared well for this performance, meeting every day for class where they would prepare pieces to perform. However, instead of performing by themselves for this event, they had the opportunity to perform with the other professional choirs. When singing different pieces, the choirs mixed and matched with the various choirs that were present at the event.
The Symphonic Choir and the Select Treble Choir sang with Parkside Harmony. The group performed “Go the Distance,” a well-known song from the Disney film, Hercules. Additionally, the Mixed Choir sang with Somerset Hills Harmony and OC Times; together, they sang “Desperado” by The Eagles, a band.
This was an exciting opportunity for the choirs as they were able to perform with people that had extensive professional experience.
Junior Evan Andrews gave his opinion on the event.
“It was so exciting getting to perform alongside such talented groups of people!” he said.
Junior Caroline Dansak also had a positive outlook on the concert.
“It was a fantastic and wonderful concert. It was very inspiring when we were able to work with other barbershop choirs. The concert was a lot of fun too, even though it was a long day!” she said.
The choirs are now looking ahead to their Winter Concert, where they will be performing the pieces they have been working on since the start of the school year. It will take place on December 16.
