The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Piu Vivace, an after-school orchestra ensemble led by orchestra conductor Sherry Griggs, held its first meeting of the year on October 8.
Now in its second year, the club gathered to organize and set the tone for the upcoming season.
The meeting began with the establishment of officer positions for the club. Following this, members introduced themselves by grade, allowing new and returning students to become acquainted with one another. The group also divided into smaller ensemble groups to explore potential music selections for future performances.
As part of the club’s tradition, snacks and refreshments were provided, creating a relaxed atmosphere for students to socialize and discuss their musical interests. Piu Vivace hopes to foster a welcoming environment for string instrument players of all skill levels.
Freshman Amelia Schenk spoke on her first-time experience with the ensemble.
“Piu Vivace is so fun because we can play music with our friends with both band and orchestra instruments and there’s free snacks at every meeting!” she said.
Sophomore bassist Wesley Lin reflected on returning to the club for its second year.
“Piu Vivace is a community of like minded passionate musicians. It gives me a place to relax and have fun with my friends,” he said.
As the club enters its second year, it continues to welcome new members and encourages any interested students to join. With a mix of structured rehearsals and small group practice, Piu Vivace offers a unique after-school musical experience for BRHS students.
Piu Vivace meets weekly on Tuesdays after school, offering students the opportunity to practice in both large and small group settings. The club aims to provide musical independence and allow members to pursue their interests by playing songs they connect with personally.
