Bridgewater-Raritan High School served s the host to a local attorney during a speaker session where students could ask questions about the law academic and career path.
It was held in Library Classroom A/B during Unit Lunch on Monday, October 13, and it was designed to be an opportunity for students interested in the field of law to learn more about the discipline.
The visiting attorney was Todd Wachtel Esq. of Levinson Axelrod, P.A. He was invited by Chris Levin, a Bridgewater-Raritan High School Social Studies Teacher.
The idea to bring the attorney from Levinson Axelrod, which has numerous offices in New Jersey, including one in Raritan, was proposed by high school senior Giselle Saravia, who wanted to organize an event for like-minded students like herself who aspired to pursue a career in the field of law.
“When planning this event, I really wanted to expose students to new career paths. I thought thgat this event would help any student feeling overwhelmed or confused regarding who they want to become,” Giselle said. “Giving students an opportunity to talk and ask questions to a real lawyer was meant to help them decide whether or not this was a genuine career possibility for them. They could use this insight to pursue other activities or extracurriculars, like joining our school’s mock trial team.’
With the speaker session beginning in the second half of lunch at around 10:35 a.m., over thirty students were in attendance. Students asked questions about what majors they should pursue in their undergraduate education, how they can stand out in law school applications and what to expect as a rookie attorney.
Mr. Watchel answered all of the students questions with both brevity and excitement. He unveiled a lot of the nuances in the law career path and recommended certain decisions at each step in the process, from studying in undergrad to finding entry-level positions in the workforce.

Mr. Levin highlights his eagerness to put on a similar event next school year.
“Since this first event was so successful, I will definitely plan to host it again each year!” he stated.
