The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Young Voters Club, which focuses on educating members about voting and politics, held its introductory meeting on September 16, officially marking the start of a new year for the club.
Club presidents Gianna Losik and Maya Mabin began by discussing the main goals they hope to achieve this year. These include registering eligible students to vote, demonstrating ways to influence politics at the local level, helping students discover their self-worth, and teaching the basics of politics and voting, especially in response to the rise of misinformation on social media and other platforms. Mabin also added that they “aim to create a positive impact in our community by addressing local issues” as well.
Losik and Mabin also shared the different types of activities they plan to organize this year, such as participating in voter registration drives, holding mock elections, partnering with nonprofits, watching news clips, discussing current events, and inviting local politicians to speak.
To conclude their meeting, the founders discussed the various ways the club can make a difference. They explained how members will become more informed voters, how increased registration can lead to stronger representation, and the types of volunteer activities available to help improve the community.
Based on the information shared in the meeting, it’s clear that the Young Voters Club is off to a strong and promising start.
Losik declared that the club is “looking forward to creating an impactful first year!”
With such a strong foundation, the rest of the school year looks bright for the club’s continued growth and impact.
