Bridgewater-Raritan High School opened its doors on August 27 to hold its annual freshman orientation.
For this event, the new freshman class was welcomed to the school, where they received information about high school procedures prior to beginning high school.
While organized by Bridgewater-Raritan High School staff, many upperclassmen students were involved in making the event a success. For example, school-appointed Bridgewater-Raritan Ambassadors were given more personal roles, being students to rely on in case of any issues.
These students are said to be the strongest representatives of BRHS, therefore being strong role models for the new class of freshmen.
Along with this, the BRHS chapter of the National Honor Society brought around 50 student volunteers. Comprised of 12th Grade students, the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors a high school student can receive, distinguished for their strong academic standing and ambition. For freshman orientation, these NHS volunteers served as tour guides for the incoming class.
Senior Anika Seshan provided her view of being an NHS volunteer at the event.
“Being able to be a guide for freshman orientation was a reflective moment for me. I was able to use my experiences from high school and give freshmen the insights and opportunities that I wish I had,” Anika said.
The event itself began with NHS volunteers situated outside the school, inviting students into the large gymnasium. The freshmen were sorted into groups based on their guidance counselors; NHS volunteers and Ambassadors were matched to each group.
Once the initial information was given, each group was split in half. One half of the group was taken on a tour by the NHS volunteers, while the other half was given a preliminary presentation about high school and the necessary details to know.
Once both groups finished, they would switch. As a method to finish off the event, all students were given ice cream once their respective tours and presentations were complete.
As the school year moves into full swing, freshman orientation set the stage for the new class to grow and succeed!
