Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Piu Vivace, a string orchestra club, held its first small ensemble concert of the year on March 11 to showcase the music that the students have been practicing for months.
The event was performed in the high school’s orchestra room.
For the better part of the year, all of the club’s student musicians have been diligently working on their music during the club meetings, which occur every Tuesday. At this concert, students were able to listen to their friends’ music and share their own music through performances.
Many different groups performed a wide array of musical selections, from personal selections of film scores to classical repertoire.
The performances began with “Princess Mononoke”, which was composed by Joe Hisaishi. It was performed by the group called “the Beethoven Baddies”. The group consisted of Anastasia Gatilova, Wesley Lin, Grace Gu, Megan Tung, Bryan Zou and Calyne Paek.

Following their performance were “the Sigmas”, an ensemble consisting of Aditya Abraham, Jigar Shroff, Aaron Persky, Ian Soos, Corbin Jimenez and Daniel Zou. They performed “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay.
Srishti Mittal and Dahlia Adams, next-up on stage, performed “Poetry” by C. Dancla, under the ensemble title “THE Boba Duet”.
After that performance, “The Stamitz Duet for Violin and Cello Minuetto Grazioso” was played by the duet of Samuel Porter and Edha Gupta.
After the duet, the group named “Top-Notch Quartet” performed a piece titled “Rondo”. Cecelia Cooper, Sarah Cooper and Aditi Panta made up the musicians in this group.
To conclude the event, an ensemble called “the Fine Fiddlers” performed “Love Story” by Taylor Swift, adapted to specific instrumentation. The group’s members were Anika Patel, Nishka Patel, Sarah Zolan, Julia Li, Laya Sankaran and Suphachikaa Chinnasamy.

Corbin Jimenez, sophomore and secretary of Piu Vivace, shares his thoughts on the concert.
“It was great to see all of the members come together and watch each other perform. It really adds a sense of unity to the community and it showcases how much we’ve all grown,” he said.
Ian Soos, junior and member of Piu Vivace, talks about his experience at the performance.
“The Piu Vivace concert was a very fun and enjoyable experience. The pieces they played were lively and engaging, and you could tell the musicians were having a great time. I’m definitely looking forward to future performances from the ensemble,” he said.
The small group ensembles plan to perform on the high school orchestra’s trip to Boston from April 4-6 at Quincy Market.
