The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Tri-M Music Honor Society held its annual Musical Mayhem competition on March 4, 2025.
There were a total of 17 performances, which made the event run for about 3 hours.
It started at 5 p.m., when musicians performing started to arrive at the school. The event was run by Tri-M, the music honor society comprised of chorus, band and orchestra students. There were three judges present to determine the scores of each performance.
There were two parts to this event. The first hour of performances, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., were all open mic performances with no judging. After dinner break, the scored competition began and more students performed.
The judges that scored all the Musical Mayhem competitors were Hannah D’Elia, Nick Pothos and Steven Singer. D’Elia and Pothos are students at Montclair State University.
Awards were given after all the performances had concluded. Third place was given to the Bridgewater-Raritan Indoor Percussion team, second place was prized to junior Anastasia Gatilova and 1st place was awarded to junior Ethan Wei.
On this day, many of the performers were nervous, some were excited and others felt a mix of emotions. However, the students performed to the best of their ability that night to enjoy the moment the best they could.
Brandon Wu, senior and president of Tri-M, shared his thoughts on this year’s iteration of Musical Mayhem.
“I’m proud of what we were able to put together this year for Musical Mayhem. The audience was great, and the music was even better. I’d like to thank all the performers, the judges, and Dr. Bourgault; we wouldn’t have been able to do it without them,” he said.
Aiden Del Gadio, a freshman student who is a part of the Bridgewater-Raritan Indoor Percussion, reflected on his experience.
“Musical Mayhem was a very fun event and it was exciting getting to perform our show for a home crowd. The experience was memorable because of the fun I got to have with my friends backstage and getting to see all the acts,” he said.
