The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Indoor Percussion performed its show “The Sound Gallery” at the Perkiomen-Valley High School in Pennsylvania on February 15.
It involves “Spring” by Vivaldi, Whitney Houston’s song “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and an original piece composed for this ensemble, “Hot To Go,” by Chappell Roan.
The students worked hard for hours and perfected their show before departing for school, where they were performing at an 8 a.m. practice that day.
Despite the weather conditions, the team encouraged each other to persevere and put on their best show that evening.
Bridgewater-Raritan placed sixth that evening during the awards ceremony at Perkiomen Valley, with a score of 71.700.
They also got the Best Visual and the Esprit de Corps Award, also known by the group as the “Dog Award,” presented by Sergeant Leatherneck for Best Musicianship, an award affiliated with the United States Marines. The ensemble was extremely proud of these awards, considering this was their first competition of the season and their show was not fully finished.
The team received feedback from the judges, which will help them improve their show in the coming weeks and perfect it even more for their next competition at North Penn on March 15.
Freshman Aiden Del Gaudio, Vibe 1 player, shared his thoughts on the overall experience.
“I thought that the competition was amazing because I got to play with the whole team, and seeing us work together well really helped us put on our best show. The weather conditions weren’t the best, but we still put on our best efforts and I’m proud of our accomplishments. I can’t wait to play with the team for the rest of the season to see what we accomplish next.”
