Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Piu Vivace, an after-school string orchestra club, held their first ever movie night on January 30.
This event was a way for students to relax and for Piu Vivace to fundraise for their upcoming events and performances.
During the movie night, “Kiki’s Delivery Service” was the featured film; the attending students had a variety of snacks to choose from.
This event was a way for the students to interact with one another and have fun watching a movie. During the recent Bridgewater-Raritan High School orchestra program winter concert, Piu Vivace played pieces from “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, making the movie a way for them to truly connect with the music.
The movie night was a unique experience as the previous events hosted by the club always involved some element of music in one way or another. The students enjoyed themselves while taking a break from their stressful lives.
Ms. Hsiao-Yu Lin Griggs, the orchestra teacher at the high school and the advisor to Piu Vivace, commented on how the movie night went.
“I enjoyed seeing the students have fun with their friends. It was also nice to see them taking a break with their lives. It was a fun experience and different from all of the other fundraisers that we have done before,” she said.
Sophomore Wesley Lin, the president of Piu Vivace, spoke on how he felt the event went.

“During the movie night, students met up in the small cafeteria and had a great night socializing. We watched Kiki’s Delivery Service, a movie by Studio Ghibli, while eating and drinking snacks and being comfy with blankets. The money from the tickets went towards supporting Piu Vivace,” he said.
Freshman Julia Li, another musician in Piu Vivace, addressed about how much fun she had at the event.
“The movie night was a fun time to relax during the week. It was cool hearing some of the music we played at the concert in the movie,” she said.
The students had the opportunity to see the music they performed along with the animation that it was originally meant for. This allowed for a rather special moment that rewarded the ensemble’s preparation for the concert.
Piu Vivace is looking forward to hosting another movie night in the future since the first one was a great success in all regards. The ensemble will also be having a small concert after-school on March 11. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the students to showcase and perform the music that they spent the past few months on.
