The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) of Bridgewater-Raritan High School held a paint party on October 25, making it the club’s first event of the year.
With the upcoming holiday, Halloween, the party was thrown for students to unwind and participate in Halloween activities.
The party consisted of painting, socializing and a costume contest, and was held in the school’s small cafeteria and went from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Before the event, club members sold tickets to students during school or at the last minute at the doors. On the day of the paint party, club members arrived at the school at four p.m. and began setting up tables for food, mainly desserts and beverages.
Tables were also set up for club members to sell various cards, bookmarks, earrings and stickers during intermissions. The money earned from the paint party will help fund the NAHS field trip to Disney during spring break.
Students arrived wearing Halloween costumes and could participate in the event’s costume contest.
As the paint party began, four club officers gave a thorough presentation and overview of what materials would be used to complete the selected painting for the event. The selected painting was a painting of cartoon ghosts in a forest. Shortly after, the four club officers demonstrated how to complete the selected painting in front of the students by giving them step-by-step instructions.
Other club members watched over each table and attended to the students’ needs for reference paintings, water and paint refills.
Junior Amalia Marquardt, an officer of the National Art Honors Society, described her thoughts regarding the paint party.
“I saw how hard all of our members worked on organizing the paint party and actually running it. It is such a joy to be able to create things together with others, and so being able to teach them how to make the painting was a really great experience,” she said.
Compared to last year’s paint party, the club officers finished their painting demonstration earlier, which gave participants more time to be creative with their pieces and add the finishing touches to their paintings.
