The stands were packed in the rainy atmosphere as students and parents alike pulled into the newly renovated John Basilone Memorial Field for the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School homecoming game on September 27.
In a grueling match against Ridge High School, the Panthers ended in a tough defeat, 47-10.
Nevertheless, the students at Bridgewater Raritan still have good remarks for the game.
The Homecoming Game started off successfully for BRHS with a field goal by Joe Squicciarini,. However, as the game progressed, the lead would slip out of Bridgewater-Raritan’s grasp.
After a momentary pause for the halftime show, Nicholas DiEsso would score a touchdown in the third quarter, which would be followed by immense cheers from the home stands. Although that would be the last point for the Panthers, the halftime show was a sight to be marveled. The members of the BRHS Marching Band led by Agastya Shahane (Prowler Arts Editor) put on a show despite the rain.
Reva Muzumdar, a member of the colorguard commented on the performance. “Before, I think we were all a little nervous and had adrenaline to just get out there and do it, but we were also super hype,” they said.
One enthusiastic fan said, “The homecoming game was a really fun experience despite the rain. I had fun cheering on our football team.” These feelings reverberated through the stands as kids painted their faces and stuck stickers to match their American and BRHS spirit.
Though the game ended in 47-10, the stands remained high-spirited throughout the game. Some more fans shared their sentiment, ”football games are always fun, no matter if we win or lose,” they said.
However, the students’ chants did not go in vain as Bridgewater-Raritan rebounded to defeat Elizabeth High School, 28-27, on October 4.
