The Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s branch of the Tri-M Music Honor society had its first meeting on the year on Wednesday, September 25, where plans for the year were announced and the new officer board was officially introduced.
The primary mission of Tri-M – which stands for Modern Music Masters – is to further music education and provide opportunities to student musicians. It is also an organization of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
The chapter has several exciting events planned for the coming year in the world of music. These include multiple recitals throughout the year, as well as opportunities to make music-related posters and meet other student musicians.
However, the most significant is going to be Musical Mayhem, a music competition with a grand prize of $500, and attendance from multiple other school districts. All members are encouraged to get involved in these events and contribute to the school’s growing music community. Membership hit a recent high this year at around fifty students, up from around half that just two years ago.
Executing these plans are the new society officers, as follows: President Brandon Wu, senior; Vice-President Helen Zhou, senior; Treasurer Navin Agarwal, senior; Secretary Venba Chandrababu, senior; and Junior Representative Saraansh Rawat, junior.
Junior Rep Saraansh Rawat, said that he is “very excited to be a part of the team; …the board really is dedicated this year, and I look forward to working with them to bring new ideas to life.” He also encouraged joining the Society because it is “extremely easy for musicians at BRHS to get involved with the music community inside and outside of school,” he said.
Krishna Dowlapalli, a sophomore and new member, expressed his excitement to participate in club events. “I want to perform with my friends, and (Musical Mayhem), especially with the prize money, is a great opportunity to do so,” he said.
Tri-M’s next major event will be the Winter Recital, where all members can sign up to perform any piece they want, on an instrument of their choice.
