The Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Tri-M Music Honor Society held the successful Musical Mayhem event on March 2.
Students from schools around New Jersey had the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and adjudicators for the chance to win prizes.
The crowd buzzed as each performer was introduced to the stage by the Tri-M officers. The students and bands performed a musical piece of their choosing. Adjudicators sitting in the back of the auditorium scored these performances. First, second, and third-place winners won a trophy and prize money.
The first place award was given to sophomore Ananth Raman, sophomore Fisayo Ogunsulire and senior Kevin Wang, who all sang “Bugler’s Holiday” by Leroy Anderson. They won the first-place trophy and $250.
The second place award went to sophomore Agastya Shahane and senior Jasmine Saini who sang “Can’t Catch Me Now” by Olivia Rodrigo. They were awarded the second-place trophy along with $175.
The third-place award was won by the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Drumline who played “Let it Shine” by Kirby Marino. They won a third-place trophy and $100.
The event itself was a revival of Tri-M’s “Battle of the Bands” event that had not taken place for years. The honor society wanted to bring the event back, but with a new spin to it, choosing “Musical Mayhem” as their new event. The event was a large success, with many people coming to watch, as well as the performers stating that they had a very pleasant time.
Jasmine Saini, a contestant and attendee of the event, gave her view on the event.
“I think Musical Mayhem was a great way for musicians to perform and hear music of all kinds, from rock to classical and everything in between. That kind of diversity can only be found in a place like Tri-M,” she said.
