Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Spanish National Honor Society served as the host to its annual Salsa Night on March 15.
Held in the large cafeteria and paired with a disco ball and party lights, the night was filled with dancing, food and more.
The event saw a turnout of over 100 students who came together to celebrate Latin American culture and cuisine. With a larger turnout than previous years, the society is optimistic that they will continue to see even larger turnouts as the years progress.
Throughout the night, students danced to Latin American music. Joined by the club advisors and Spanish teachers from BR, the air was energetic as the students spent the night with their friends.
The food included tacos from Pancheros and traditional dishes provided by society members, like bean dips. All other supplies were also supplied by the society members in return for service hours. These events help members of the society to remain involved throughout the year and contribute toward events.
This event was also an avenue for the new members of the society to interact with the upperclassmen as it was an event open to all.
Vincent Day, one of the Vice Presidents of the Spanish National Honor Society, spoke on the event’s turnout.
“Salsa Night was a huge success and we had a fun night of eating good food and dancing,” he said.
The event celebrated the large Hispanic community in our district and connected others to Latin American culture. For example, many students approved of the effective culture-spreading act of interacting with different types of Latin American foods. This consisted of the various Latin American soft drinks and dishes available.
All proceeds from the night went to funding for the honor society. This is the society’s main event of the year and a major fundraiser for future events.
In the spring, the Spanish National Honor Society will induct its new members into the organization. Prospective members submitted applications based on their grade eligibility and event attendance.
