As the weather gets warmer and the flowers start to bloom, Basilone Memorial Field is filled once again with the ambitious athletes of the Bridgewater Raritan High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams.
The official start of practice for the spring track and field season was on March 10.
Both the girls’ and boys’ squads look to the long season ahead with prowess, practicing daily after school and on Saturday mornings.
The spring track and field season is truly lengthy.
The team expects to have 19 meets in nearly three months. There will additionally be a noteworthy meet on April 24, travelling to the University of Pennsylvania for the prestigious Penn Relays.
The final meet that will end the spring track and field season will be the Meet of Champions, being held in Pennsauken, New Jersey on June 4.
As an improvement to the 2025 season, the team has gained increasing access to the weight room of Basilone Memorial Field’s fieldhouse for strength training to support athletes’ journeys to higher success and improvement.
The 2024-2025 spring track and field roster featured a balanced mix of veteran athletes in addition to many new athletes who decided to take up on the sport.
Sophomore Chhavi Jakhotia, a new addition to the girls’ team, reflects on her bold decision to join the group.
“I decided to join the girls track and field team because I wanted to explore a new part of the school community and make new memories along the way,” she said.
Significantly, the spring team eagerly awaits greater success in this season after numerous accomplishments in the distinctive winter track and field season.
The Bridgewater Raritan High School’s winter track and field season featured 12 new school records set in a diverse set of events, raising expectations for many more accomplishments in the spring track and field season.
Sophomore Michael Eng, a varsity sprinter and hurdler, describes his excitement for the season ahead and what he hopes to accomplish.
“I’m looking forward to getting faster and improving my form as a hurdler. I also want to achieve more personal records this season,” he said.
David Evans, the boys’ team head coach, expressed his satisfaction and goals for the spring season.
“We have a great mix of returning veterans and up and coming younger team members. I’m looking forward to seeing how many school records we can take down this season!” he said.
Bridgewater-Raritan delivered powerful performances at the first meet in competition with Franklin High School and Somerville High School on March 25 and their second meet, the Skyland Conference Relays, at Franklin High School on March 29.
Bridgewater-Raritan looks ahead to its first home meet against Bound Brook High School, Manville High School and Watchung Hills Regional High School on April 1.
