As fall makes the transition into winter, the Bridgewater-Raritan High School girls’ fall tennis season comes to an end.
With the sound final record of 15-4 and a berth in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 state sectional championship match, the girls left the courts smiling with no regrets.
Seniors Jessica Kozyra, Madison McInerney and Riya Senjalia demonstrated their hard work and dedication to the team by continuously playing for all four years of their high school career. Despite Madison suffering an injury during the middle of the season, she never missed a single match and always played her best to win the game.
These impressive qualities were also shown during practices, when the three senior girls helped coach other varsity members, giving feedback and suggestions to improve their strokes and performances. Their passion for tennis has set an example and a set of standards for the underclassmen, who will carry the future of the team.
Although the team dropped down a division, the girls were nevertheless able to prove their capabilities. Playing to sectional finals, they earned themselves the title of North Jersey, Section 2 Group 4 runner-up. Bridgewater-Raritan fell in a thrilling 3-2 match to Westfield High School in the state sectional final.
Some of their other feats included the Raritan Division and the Westfield Blue Devil Invitational.
The girls’ and boys’ tennis team’s coach, Evan Rosenberg, had expressed his thoughts over these past few months.
“I think [the season] went fantastic, we improved on the court,” he said. “We made it to the state sectional finals for the first time in six years. I think we established a culture and expectation of commitment, and I’m very happy with how the season went,” he said.
Coach Rosenberg also described his hopes for the future.
“We can build on all the things we put in place this past season, and continue winning, but more importantly continue making tennis a commitment and showing the younger girls that it takes commitment to be a successful varsity team at any sport at the high school,” he said.
The girls team hopes to continue this pattern of success in fall of 2025.
