The Bridgewater-Raritan High School girls’ tennis team moved into first place in its division with a victory over Bernards High School on Thursday, September 12.
Bridgewater-Raritan (6-0, 3-0) ended that day alone atop the standings in the Skyland Conference Raritan Division after scoring a 4-1 victory over Bernards (3-3, 3-1) at the Bernardsville Middle School in Bernardsville.
Despite the rough previous season, the girls were able to get back on their feet this year and climb to the top spot.
The team includes seniors Jessica Kozyra and Madison McInerney on first and second singles, sophomore Neha Ashok on third doubles, senior Riya Senjalia and sophomore Vivian Chao on first doubles and sophomore Rhia Evans and freshman Skye Cabatu on second doubles.
After hours of playing and long rallies, the seven varsity girls were able to defeat Bernards with a team score of 4-1.
Among the victories that Bridgewater-Raritan compiled were against Mount Saint Mary Academy, 4-1; North Hunterdon High School, 5-0; Watchung Hills Regional High School, 5-0; Cranford High School, 5-0; and Voorhees High School, 5-0.
In the following weeks, the girls’ tennis team posted 5-0 victories over Somerville High School and against against North Hunterdon.
