Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Forensics Speech and Debate club will serve as the host to its first meeting on Tuesday, September 24, in the high school’s small cafeteria.
The club has multiple categories: Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Congressional Debate and Speech. Students can improve their speaking skills and confidence by participating in weekend tournaments.
Forensics aspires to have members place in tournaments and have students qualify for the Tournament of Champions and National Speech and Debate Tournament. Last year, the squad captured awards throughout the season, succeeding in the state championship and beyond. Additionally, multiple participants flew out to Kentucky and Des Moines to compete.
Board members of the club have planned more tournaments for this upcoming season. This includes three national tournaments at Ridge High School, Pennsbury High School in Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania. Cumulatively, Bridgewater-Raritan will take part in at least 11 tournaments this year.
Forensics is a place that accepts anyone, no matter their experience and background.
Club president Abhay Sankar said, “We are excited about a new year of debate, and we want more students to join the club. We look forward to having an incredible season.”
